Neotelphusa sequax

(Haworth, 1828)775 / 35.145

Morley’s Final Catalogue: Taken in woods by the Orwell at Nacton in 1903 (Gibbs; Trans, i, 36). Perhaps from cultivated Helianthemum.

Recent Status: A rare species in Suffolk that was found on Cavenham Heath 16th June 2022.

Life Style: Single brooded flying in June, July and August. The moth flies by day and night and will come to light. The species is typically found in short grassland areas on chalk and limestone but will occur where ever the larval foodplant grows. The larvae feed from spun terminal shoots of Helianthemum species. They pupate in a loose cocoon close to the ground during June.

Identification:C. sequax has a white head. It is very variable in appearance with patterning similar to the common Teleiopsis diffinis but with a white or pale ground colour. More Info
