Life Style: The species Luffia ferchaultella has recently been synonymised with L. lapidella. Some discussion still prevails. The reasoning being that L. ferchaultella is a parthenogenetic form of L. lapidella. Males are very rare, but do occur in Britain.. The larvae feed from a portable case on algae and lichen on solid substrate.

Identification: Males are rare. More Info They can be identified by genitalia dissection. More Info The females are apterous. Oviposition in the case, whence the cycle re-commences. The species is most readily recorded as the larval case.
