Status
Morley’s Final Catalogue: Not listed. Nepticulids were not well studied only 21 species listed.

Recent Status: A number of records for Suffolk.

Life Style: The moth is single brooded flying in April and May and coming to light. The larvae mine the leaves of Malus during June and July in a translucent brown blotch. They pupate on the ground.

Identification: The moth has an orange head tuft and white scape. The wings are covered by scales that are white with a black section near their tips giving the wings an intensely speckled appearance. Two other Suffolk recorded species, Trifurcula immundella and T. cryptella are similarly coloured so genitalia dissection is required to confirm the identity unless bred from mines. http://www2.nrm.se/en/svenska_fjarilar/b/bohemannia_genitalia.html

Determination by Genitalia Examination Required

Mine: Either the leaf or a good photograph required
