Status Morley's Final Catalogue: Very local, and somewhat rare in certain woods: not at Bentley where is no Circaea. Raydon Wood (Garrett) in 1894 (Baylis) 1933 (Doughty) and 1934, when several occurred in felled Letheringham Park (Mly). Before 1890 at Ipswich, Needham and Stowmarket, as well as Beccles (Crf) and Fritton in 1929 (Wiltshire).
Recent Suffolk Status: Fairly common.
Life history: Double-brooded.
Identification: Water carpet flies earlier in the year and is bigger. Phoenix is also a much bigger moth and more brown in colouration.
Habitat: Various habitats including gardens, waste ground, woodland rides and clearings.Recorded in 46 (79%) of 58 10k Squares. First Recorded in 1894. Last Recorded in 2024. |
