Status
Morley's Final Catalogue: So abundant as to be quite a nuisance at light in July: described in 1858 as occurring 'in immense profusion' here.

Recent Suffolk Status: Much declined and more local in recent years.

Life history: Single brooded in the summer. Larval nests with the colourful caterpillars occasionally found in the spring.

Identification: Similar to Ground lackey which occurs near the coast (but occasionally wanders further inland). Pale cross-lines run almost parallel in Lackey but are pinched in on Ground lackey.

Habitats: Woodland, wooded heathland, gardens, parks, hedgerows.
