Morley's Final Catalogue: Referring to both Common quaker and Hebrew character: Excessively abundant on sallow-blossom, and occasionally at light, throughout Suffolk.

Recent Suffolk Status: Very common.

Life history: Single-brooded. Occasional records noted in late autumn and through the winter months until the main flight period from March. Overwinters as a fully formed adult in the pupa so no doubt early mild spells can prompt emergence. Can come to light in large numbers. Has been noted on Sallow blossom in Suffolk fairly regularly. Larvae can be found on various trees in late spring.

Identification: Quite variable in colour, but normally some shade of brown. Small quaker is as the name suggests a smaller moth, with a narrower kidney mark and a weak outer line. Blossom underwing is much more orange in colour and has a pinkish hindwing compared to Common quaker which has a white hindwing.

Habitat: Woodland, scrub, hedgerows, gardens.

Recorded in 53 (91%) of 58 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1939.
Last Recorded in 2024.
