Morley's Final Catalogue: Levelly distributed everywhere, and quite common at both sugar and light, from Ipswich to Gorleston.

Recent Suffolk Status: Common.

Life history: Double-brooded. First brood moths are larger than the second brood and often darker in colour.

Identification: Ingrailed clay is normally paler in colour and are more patterned in light and dark shades. Fen square-spot, a rarely recorded species in the county, is larger and paler in colour and appears between the two broods of Small square-spot. The genitalia of Fen square-spot are identical to Small square-spot so future DNA studies may in fact reveal they are the same species.

Habitat: A wide variety of habitats including gardens.

Recorded in 54 (93%) of 58 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1930.
Last Recorded in 2023.
