Morley's Final Catalogue: On heaths: becoming scarce. Noticed at Gorleston (Mr) and Martlesham (D) only since 1890, when itwas known to occur at Foxhall heath, Blaxhall, Dunwich, Lowestoft, Herringfleet; and in the Breck at Tuddenham and Brandon.

Recent Suffolk Status: A common species in the Brecks and Sandlings. Does wander away from heathland habitat regularly and may breed on garden heathers.

Life history: Single-brooded. Flies from May in Suffolk. Larvae regularly found in Suffolk in recent years on Heather at night during the winter months.

Identification: Heath rustic has an obvious pale streak along the forewing edge. Beautiful yellow underwing is a much smaller species and has an obvious yellow hindwing.

Habitat: Heathland.

Recorded in 44 (76%) of 58 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1890.
Last Recorded in 2023.
