Archips rosana

(Linnaeus, 1758)981 / 49.016

Morley’s Final Catalogue: By no means general; never seen alive here (Mly). Bentley, Shrubland, Ipswich in 1931-4 (Whit), Hemley in 1906 (Wir); occasionally at Gorleston (D).

Recent Status: Rare in Suffolk.

Life Style: A single brooded summer flying species that comes to light. The ova are laid in batches on bark and covered with a protective layer. They hatch the following year when the larvae feed on buds, leaves and flowers of a wide range of deciduous and some coniferous trees and shrubs.

Identification: A sexually dimorphic species. The male is smaller with a costal fold. The markings do not differ greatly but are less bold in the female which may also show a more pronounced netted patterning. More Info
