Cochylidia heydeniana

(Herrich-Schäffer, 1851)957 / 49.131

Morley’s Final Catalogue: An especial Breck species, occurring also on our coast. Lowestoft in August (EMM. 1922, 258). Larva feeding in flowers of Erigeron acre at Elveden (Williams), and Brandon; Eupaecilia erigerana, Wlsm., doubtless occurs all over the Breck district (Barrett, Trans. Norf. Nat. Soc. 1899, 546): Worlington in 1925 (Whit, Trans, i, 35).

Recent Status: Scarce.

Life Style: A double brooded species that flies in mid-summer. The larvae feed in the flowers of Erigeron acris and Conyza. The autumn brood hibernates in the larval habitation where they pupate.

Identification: This species is similar to C. implicitana which shares a similar habitat of dry open land. In contrast to C. implicitana, C. heydeniana has a broader and less oblique dorsal mark and has barred cilia. It is a little smaller than C. implicitana. More Info
