Recent Status: Originally an adventive species captured at light in Sussex during 2008 is now an established resident in that county. The first Suffolk record was at light on 14 December 2021 in Felixstowe. More records followed in 2022. Expected to continue increasing in the County.
It has been found elsewhere in Great Britain and in France and The Netherlands. Originally from Madeira Islands.

Life Style: A double brooded species found in all but the coldest months of the year. The larvae are as yet unknown.

Identification: This is a very variable species of Blastobasis. It may appear unicolorous brown, grey or blackish or can appear well marked similar to B. adustella but seldom shows the ‘V’ of the common Suffolk Blastobasis strongly. One form exists with a black streak from the base to the apex. More Info It is the smallest of the Blastobasis species in Suffolk and requires genitalia dissection for confirmation of a record More Info
