Agonopterix putridella

([Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775)693 / 32.021

Morley’s Final Catalogue: Not listed

Recent Status: First noted in Britain during 1906. First recorded in Suffolk during 2019. The species is restricted to locations where the larval foodplant occurs at coastal sites in Essex. The foodplant grows more commonly in warmer climes. The extension of the range of the species is possible with climate change.

Life Style: The moth is single brooded flying during July and August. The larvae feed on Peucedanum officinale loosely spinning the leaflets. They pupate in the larval habitation.

Identification: The moth is distinctive, pale with dark antennae and dark marked veins. There is a dark elongate and variable smudge centrally and dark spots on the termen. The twin black spots common of Agonopterix are present along with a black, white ringed spot similar to that of A. yeatiana.
