Luquetia lobella

Morley’s Final Catalogue: Somewhat common among blackthorn at Southwold in June, and taken at Aldeburgh on 18 July 1892 (Ctw).

Recent Status: A generally common species that is possibly under-recorded.

Life Style: A single brooded species flying from May to July and coming to light. The larvae feed beneath leaves of Prunus spinosa generally low on the shrub and it drops to the ground from light spinnings when disturbed. They pupate in a yellow silk cocoon amongst detritus on the ground.

Identification: A dark brown or grey moth with prominent palps and two series of prominent black scale tufts. The moth is roughly triangular at rest. It is not as active as similar Gelechiid moths.
