Morley’s Final Catalogue: Not listed. Nepticulids were not well studied and only 21 species listed.

Recent Status: Not commonly recorded.

Life Style: Single brooded species that fly during June, July and August. The larvae mine the live bark of deciduous Quercus species.

Identification: These two species of the sub-genus Zimmermannia in Britain. E. atrifrontella and E. longicaudella. The latter has yet to be recorded in Suffolk. The species in this genus are large Ectoedemia with pale wings showing a peppering of black scales and indistinct paler tornal spot. They have black head tufts and a white scape. E. atrifrontella has a whitish thorax. It is black in E. longicaudella. They can also be separated by genitalia dissection. More Info The larvae of the two species are inseparable.

Determination by Genitalia Examination (gen. det.) Required

Mine: Moth needs to be reared and, in some cases, possibly dissected.
