Recent Status: A rare species in the UK and Suffolk.

Life Style: The moth has been captured in June, July and August. The larvae are quoted as feeding on Betula but there is limited evidence for this.

Identification: The moth is a distinctive Nepticulid. It has an orange head and white scape. The forewings are rough, large scaled dark brown shining golden, except for a large patch of scales at the wing base that are flat shining grey. There is a silver or golden fascia at two thirds that may be broken mid-wing and the cilia are silver or pale golden. It is a large species at 9 mm wingspan. There is no similar UK species.
