(Frey, 1855)324 / 15.044

Morley’s Final Catalogue: Bred by Dr. Whittingham in 1935 at Bentley.

Recent Status: Rarely recorded in Suffolk.

Life Style: A double brooded species that has been found from April to September. The larvae mine leaves of Sorbus aucuparia and Prunus padus and occasionally Sorbus aria and Chaenomeles japonica. They pupate in a cocoon in the larval habitation. The pupal stage passes the winter.

Identification: The moth is a golden or darker brown with a basal streak, four small costal and three dorsal marks that are white edged black on the basal edges. The first two dorsal marks are large the third very small. P. oxyacanthae, P. sorbi and P. mespilella cannot be reliably separated without genitalia dissection.
The larval create a large blister blotch generally on the underside of a leaf edge causing it to fold over. There is a strong crease in the lower epidermis. More Info
