Aspilapteryx tringipennella

(Zeller, 1839)294 / 15.015

Morley’s Final Catalogue: A common species on ribwort-plantain. Lowestoft (Bd); Sutton Heath and Thetford in 1932-4 (Whit) and Tuddenham (Wrn).

Recent Status: Locally common.

Life Style: A double brooded summer flying species that comes to light. The larvae mine the leaves of Plantago lanceolata. They pupate in a cocoon in the larval habitation.

Identification: A distinctive moth which stands erect on its fore legs at rest. The two tone wings are a shade of brown with a pale silvery white costal strip to three quarters. They have a variable number of black spots in lines along the length of the wing.
The larval mine initially in a gallery on the underside becomes a blotch towards the base of the leaf on the upper side causing it to fold upwards. More Info
