Morley’s Final Catalogue: Taken upon palings in Brandon on 23 July 1937 (Morley).

Recent Status: The species is found in the north west of Suffolk.

Life Style: A single brooded species flying during June and July. The egg is laid on the underside of Frangula and Rhamnus. The larvae feed initially in a mine then externally underneath a leaf. They pass the winter as a pupa in a straw coloured, ribbed cocoon.

Identification: Bucculatrix species are small moths with a prominent tuft on the head.
This species has a white head and wings. There are mid-brown scales forming two costal patches and one dorsal patch, these can be joined centrally. There are also brown scales around the wing tip where they are mixed with black scales. There is also a black spot and scale tuft in advance of the dorsal patch. More Info The larvae mine in concentric circles initially before mining away from this and exiting the mine. They then feed externally from the underside of the leaf causing windows. More Info
