Bucculatrix cristatella

Morley’s Final Catalogue: Discovered by Dr. Whittingham south of Thetford 1932.

Recent Status: A scarce species in Suffolk. Possibly under-recorded.

Life Style: A double brooded species flying May to August. Flies by day and night and comes to light. The larvae feed on Achillea millefolium. They pupate in a ribbed cocoon on or close to the larval habitation.

Identification: Bucculatrix species are small moths with a prominent tuft on the head.
B. cristatella has glossy unicolorous wings with a paler sometimes ferruginous head. The colour varies from grey to light fuscous. The scape is the same colour as the wings. B. maritima males can sometimes appear similar to this species but they will always have some darker scales on the wing. At a minimum along the wing tip.
