Monopis fenestratella

Morley’s Final Catalogue: Not listed.

Recent Status: A very scarce species in Britain. It is recorded in adjacent counties and most frequently in Britain within East Anglia. First recorded in East Suffolk during 2023.

Life Style: The moth has been found from May till August and is believed to have two generations in a year. The moth comes to light. The larvae feed on Keratin and are associated with birds nests, notably raptors but also poultry houses. There is no description of the larva or its mode of habitation. There is no evidence of the species associated with rotting wood or fungi.

Identification: The moth is a larger Monopis with a large central haline window in the forewing. The forewing is a shade of dull brown to grey with large ill defined ochreous patches. Two beyond the haline window and one near the base on the dorsum. The hindwings are grey with a purple sheen.
