Recent Status: A rare species but may be under-recorded.

Life Style: The moth is single brooded flying in June and July. The male comes to light the female is apterous. In common with similar species in the Psychidae the ova are laid in the larval case and the larvae hatch and construct their case out of the old female larval case. The larvae feed on algae and lichens on trees. They pupate in the larval case following two years feeding.

Identification: The adult male is a glossy dark brown with an indistinct darker reticulate patterning. The hindwings are grey. The male antennae are shortly pectinate.
The larvae live in a portable case. They sit at right angles to the substrate. The case is rounded and covered in lichen and algae and may have projecting pieces. More Info
