Morley’s Final Catalogue: By no means rare, in east or west. Felixstow, Bawdsey and near Hemley (EMM. 1904, 80); Orford in July 1902 (Gibbs), Aldeburgh (Ctw) and Southwold in 1933 (Wir), Benacre 1936 (Gd). Near Timworth in 1911 (Nurse); Tuddenham (Wrt), two specimens in July 1903 (Sparke); Brandon (Barrett). At Monks Soham light in August 1935 (Mly).

Recent Status: A common species widely recorded across Suffolk.

Life Style: A single brooded species that flies at night and comes to light. The larvae feed on the seeds of Cirsium vulgare from below and inside the flower head. They pass the winter in a cocoon on the ground where they pupate in spring.

Identification: Phycitodes binaevella is larger and more boldly marked than the other Phycitodes species. It is a similar size to Homoeosoma nebulella but again is more boldly marked and does not have the narrow dark costa of that species.
