Morley’s Final Catalogue: Occurs throughout the east half of the County at Bentley (Harwood), Ipswich lights (Pyett), in Orwell woods (Gibbs), Bawdsey (EMM. 1904, 80), Hemley in 1904 (Wir), at Monks Soham light in July 1921-35 (Mly), Aldeburgh (Ctw), Reydon (Baker), Southwold in 1891-7 (Ctw, Barrett), Beccles (Crf), Gorleston (D).

Recent Status: A common species well recorded across Suffolk.

Life Style: A single brooded species that flies at night and comes to light. The larvae feed on elm, primarily in hedgerows. They may use silken webbing across the top of a leaf. The pupal stage passes the winter.

Identification: An easily recognised species from the deep pinkish or red colour of the front half of the moth at rest and the median band not starting till half way along the moth. The pre median line is a white line set in an irregular black band. The post median line is white and black edged. The two discal spots are connected.
