Acrobasis marmorea

(Haworth, 1811)1440 / 62.037
=Trachycera marmorea

Morley’s Final Catalogue: Hemley in 1904 (Wir) and not uncommon at Aldeburgh in 1892 (Ctw, EMM. 1892, 254); rarely at Monks Soham light in August 1919-37 (Mly).

Recent Status: This species is not common in Suffolk. Most records are in the eastern and coastal parts of the county.

Life Style: A summer flying species that comes to light. The larvae are a dull brownish grey and feed in a similar manner to those of Acrobasis suavella in a web on Blackthorn and has been found on Hawthorn and Sorbus species. Pupation occurs in the web during early summer.

Identification: Acrobasis marmorea shows similarities in patterning to A. suavella and A. advenella however the area enclosed by the sub-basal and pre median line is hard to see since the sub-basal line is indistinct. The dorsally strong white pre median line merges into a narrower median band and the discal spots are joined. The basal area of the wing, thorax and head are dominated by a deep red to orange brown colour.

Recorded in 22 (38%) of 58 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1892.
Last Recorded in 2024.
