Lamoria zelleri

(Joannis, 1932)1429 / 62.002
=Aphomia zelleri
=Melissoblaptes zelleri

Morley’s Final Catalogue: Mr. A. E. Gibbs of St. Albans was so fortunate as to take a series of this genus, under the above specific name, at Felixstow in 1901, and more in 1903 (Trans. 1, 33). All British specimens are referred by Meyrick in 1927, p. 401, to M. bipunctanus, Zell.

Recent Status: The species is established around the coast of Suffolk.

Life Style: The moth is single brooded flying from dusk till dawn and will visit light. The larvae of Lamoria zelleri feed on the moss Brachythecium albicans from silken tubes connected to a vertical tube up to 10cm deep in sand where the larvae rest. The larvae hibernate, feeding during autumn and spring and pupate in location during the spring.

Identification: The adult moth is a cream colour speckled darker with two spots that may have pale centres. The costal third of the forewing is usually a deeper cream or ochre. There are a series of dashes representing the post median line and the termen is dotted. They hold their wings around the body at rest.
