Morley’s Final Catalogue: Not Listed

Recent Status: First recorded for Suffolk on 1st October 2023. The species originates from Australia and the Orient. It arrived as an adventive to Western Europe, has gained a foothold and spread. Among other countries it is reported as established in France, Belgium and The Netherlands and so seems likely to become so in Britain.

Life Style: The moth is thought to be double brooded and the larvae reported to feed on a species of Carex in New Zealand. However there is no clear evidence for Carex being a foodplant in Europe. The vernacular name refers to it being associated with imported palms. Palms and Carex do not appear to be likely co-hosts. Investigation on the life cycle of the species is needed.

Identification: A small dark and rather drab moth. It is sharply triangular at rest with a scalloped termen. There is a fine weak white post median line and small white marks along the costa. A dark stigma and pre median line are sometimes discernible. There is no similar species.
