Recent Status: A specimen taken in East Suffolk during 2016 of this reportedly declining species nationally.

Life Style: A single brooded species flying during summer and coming to light. The larvae feed on the flowers and seeds of Rhinanthus minor and Melampyrum pratense. They overwinter in a tough cocoon and pupate in spring.

Identification: Anania fuscalis is a glossy/silky grey or brownish grey moth. It shows a broad triangular shape at rest and is weakly marked. The post median line is sinuate and dentate. The orbicular stigma is small and the reniform a short bar. The possible confusion species of Udea prunalis has well formed stigmata and an evenly curved post median line. It is also narrower winged.
