A E Aston 1961: Orange-rayed Pearl. Brandon in S.W. wind 5.vi.1939 (Entomologist 1 xxiv, 171 and Trans. S.N.S., Vol. IV, pt. IV p.267). Messrs. P. J. Burton and C. Morley took the species at light at midnight on 22.vi.1946 in Thelnetham Fen (Trans. S.N.S., Vol VI, pt.I, p.56). Messrs C. Morley and P. J. Burton took cilialis in Flixton Marsh on June 10th, 1948, and on Kessingland denes on 14.vi.1948 (Trans. S.N.S., Vol. XI, pt. III, p. 250). Well established in marshes near Waldringfield on 26th June, 1959, and seen there by Mr. Alfred Waller (Trans, S.N.S., Vol XI, pt. III, p. 257). July 1960 Walberswick one specimen taken by Professor J. V. Dacie (Trans. S.N.S., Vol. XI, pt, V, p.401).

Recent Status: An East Anglian species for Britain that is locally recorded across Suffolk in suitable wetland habitats.

Life Style: A single brooded species that flies at night from May till July and comes to light. The larvae feed on a variety of sedges. They pass the winter in a cocoon in which they pupate during the spring.

Identification: Nasia cilialis has orange forewings with the veins, costa and termen shaded to a greater or lesser extent with mid-brown. The palps are forward pointing and the legs white. The hindwings are whitish. The only confusion species, the immigrant, Antigastra catalaunalis, has a cream/white wing with orange/brown shading. Its costa is noticeably curved reaching the apex and the legs are particularly long.
