Recent Status: There are records in both vice counties. Pyrausta ostrinalis is a scarce species in Britain.

Life Style: A double brooded species flying by day and night and coming to light. The larvae feed on Thymus species.

Identification: Pyrausta ostrinalis has similarities to P. aurata but particularly P. purpuralis. It possesses the spot in the basal area of the hindwing in common with P. purpuralis however the makings relating to the post median line are more confluent and along with other wing markings are dark edged. The yellow markings are usually paler than those of P. aurata More Info .
