Evergestis forficalis

Morley’s Final Catalogue: Abundant everywhere in the County, and England; especially in gardens and at light.

Recent Status: A common and sometimes abundant species across Britain and Suffolk.

Life Style: A double brooded summer flying species coming to light it has an abundance peak in May/June and in August in Suffolk. The larvae feed on all species of Brassicaceae. That includes cultivated Brassicas. It does not cause extensive damage to crops. The green larvae feed from a slight webbing beneath a leaf. Pupation takes place in a cocoon below ground. Autumn larvae hibernate.

Identification: An easily recognised species with no similar species in Britain. The pebble refers to the reniform stigma.
