Agriphila latistria

Morley’s Final Catalogue: Certainly infrequent here. Waldringfield at light in 1931-2 (Wir); Fritton before 1890 (Bd); Lowestoft in August (Ent. 1922, 258); at Thetford (Mly) and near Thetford (Harwood); Brandon (Barrett), Worlington 1906-10-24 (Bp.) ; and close to the Tuddenham windmill (Waters), which is now demolished.

Recent Status: A species of light sandy soils where-ever they occur. Found in both vice counties. It can vary in abundance over the years.

Life Style: A single brooded species flying at night and coming to light with a peak at the end of August. The larvae feed on grasses and pupate in sand in a long cocoon.

Identification: Agriphila latistria is an easily recognised species from the long white central streak on a forewing of a varied shade of brown. The streak widens from the base and can be obliquely but narrowly broken before reaching right through to the cilia.
