(Linnaeus, 1758)1300 / 63.085

Morley’s Final Catalogue: (Under C. dumetellus, H ü b.) Merely local in England. UNRECORDED!—SURELY it occurs?—Ed.

Recent Status: There are records of this scarce species in East Suffolk. It is a species of dry habitats and may also occur as a rare immigrant.

Life Style: A single brooded species flying in early summer and coming to light. The larvae feed on the lower parts of grasses from silken tubes. They appear to prefer the Wavy Hair Grass, Deschampsia flexuosa.

Identification: Crambus pratella is very similar to C. lathoniellus both have a prominent spur on the fairly narrow central white streak. Both have a white streak along the costa this is longer and wider in C. lathoniellus. The central streak is wider in C. patella and narrows abruptly before the interruption. The streak narrows evenly from the spur to a point at the interruption on C. lathoniellus. Both species have an only slightly indent forewing termen.
