Grapholita funebrana

(Treitschke, 1835)1247 / 49.357

Morley’s Final Catalogue: The unlocalised Suffolk record of larvae in fruit of plums (1890, p. 44) is confirmed by Mr. Gibbs' capture of the perfect insect at Orford during June 1903 (EMM. 1904, 80). Occurred so commonly as to be a pest on plum and bullace at Waldringfield in 1935 (Wir); Ipswich and Chattisham (Whit).

Recent Status: Recorded across Suffolk. Seen regularly at pheromone lure.

Life Style: A single brooded species that flies by night and comes to light from May to September. The larvae feed inside the fruit of Prunus species, leaving a hole on the fruit surface. They hibernate fully fed in a cocoon in which they pupate.

Identification: A dark moth in a shade of fuscous or grey with darker fuscous or black markings. There are black spots in the ocellus and some plumbeous shading there too. Any paler marks or shading which may include costal strigulae are white. The head is dark fuscous. More Info
