Morley’s Final Catalogue: Infrequent during May in the Bentley Woods: from 1895 (Baylis) to 1934 (Trans, ii, p. clxvii). Bred thence in 1935; Thetford in 1933: not uncommon (Whit).

Recent Status: One of our commoner Ancylis species in woodland or scrub.

Life Style: A double brooded species flying in the evening and night and coming to light. It can be found from late spring to early autumn. The larvae feed from a spun rolled leaf on Quercus, Fagus, Castanea or Betula. The larvae hibernate and pupate in the feeding location which may fall to the ground.

Identification: An attractive bright orange brown species. It has a darker dorsal patch from the base to one half where it is edged white. It is darker along the costal second half with white strigulae and the ocellar area is paler. There is no similar Suffolk species.
