Morley’s Final Catalogue: Occurs locally, in the Breck round Brandon (Warren).

Recent Status: A rare species in Suffolk.

Life Style: Single brooded species flying during August. The larvae mine leaves of Alnus. They pupate in a dark cocoon on the ground.

Identification: The moth is a dark bronze fuscous becoming purplish towards the tip with a white fascia. The head tuft is orange and the scape and collar are yellow. The moth can be identified by breeding out from a mine or by genitalia dissection. More Info
The laevae mine a long narrow gallery from an ovum on the underside of a leaf and is not readily distinguished from that of S. alnetella. The larvae however are darker and possess a dark quadrate prothoracic mark absent in S. alnetella. More Info
