Recent Status: The first British record was in 1993. The first Suffolk record was in 2010. It has since become quite common.
Life Style: A double brooded species that flies at night and comes to light. The larvae feed in the flowers and seed heads of Helminthotheca echioides. The autumn generation hibernate in a cocoon on the ground in which they pupate. The summer generation pupate in the flower head.
Identification: This species is overall browner than most other Cochylis species. The palps are usually a clear brown. The head and thorax are a mix of colours. There is a dorsal mark and two quadrate marks on the costa one at the base and one centrally.
