Status Morley’s Final Catalogue: Not listed.
Recent Status: A rare species in Suffolk.
Life Style: A single brooded species that hibernates and comes to light. It can be found from August till May. The larvae mine white blotches on leaves of Circaea lutetiana also reported occasionally on Epilobium and Chamaenerion. They pupate in a spindle shaped cocoon.
Identification: The moth is quite unlike any other British Mompha being dark brown with a prominent sub-quadrate white patch centrally placed at two thirds. There may also be a small white dash at one third and a vague suffusion terminally. The larval mine in Circaea lututiana is similar to that of M. terminella. The mines are a hybrid between a broad gallery and a blotch. They move to other points on the leaf or another leaf. However the initial mine of the two species differ. That of M. terminella showing spirally arranged frass whilst that of M. langiella is dispersed. http://www.leafmines.co.uk/html/Lepidoptera/M.langiella.htmRecorded in 6 (10%) of 58 10k Squares.
