Status
Morley’s Final Catalogue: Always found among gorse. Lowestoft (Boyd), &c.

Recent Status: A scarce species in the County. More records of larval mines in recent years. Probably more widespread than records suggest.

Life Style: The moth is single brooded and found during June and July. The larvae mine narrow green stems of Ulex europaeus. They are very difficult to find. They pupate in a silk lined chamber in the larval habitation. The larvae feed through the winter.

Identification: The moth is most similar to P. scopariella but has more clearly defined markings and there are only four costal and three dorsal marks. There is some, but very restricted, dark edging.
Whilst the larval mine is very difficult to find, if a pupal exuvium marks it then the species may be identified from that exuvium. MBGBI Vol 2 should be used for that purpose. https://mothdissection.co.uk/species.php?Tx=Phyllonorycter_ulicicolella
