Status
Morley's Final Catalogue: Common at light from Ipswich to Mildenhall and Gorleston; larvae abundant beside the Waveney at Beccles in 1892.
Recent Suffolk status: Very common. Resident populations boosted by immigration.
Life history: Double-brooded. Can be found into November in Suffolk.
Identification: There are many similar species. Main features to look for are white spots around the dark kidney mark, black spots along the costa and dark shading in the outer part of the forewing.
Habitat: A wide variety of habitats including gardens.Recorded in 50 (86%) of 58 10k Squares.
