Morley's Final Catalogue: Doubtless sufficiently general, though scarce around Ipswich. Waldringfield; annually at light at Monks Soham; Barnby Broad, Gorleston, Southtown. No specific record from western Suffolk.

Recent Suffolk Status: Common.

Life history: Single-brooded. Seen in small numbers at light.

Identification: Dotted clay has the obvious black mark in the corner of the wing.

Habitat: Damp meadows, marshes, fens, woodland and gardens.

Recorded in 48 (83%) of 58 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1940.
