Morley's Final Catalogue: Rare in the few sylvan places where it occurs. Brandon, Woolpit, Stowmarket, Needham, Playford, Bentley: ante 1890. Belstead, one 1899 (Platten); occasionally on undergrowth in woods, Bentley 1894-1933 (Mly,D); and 1936 at Blythburgh (Gd).
Recent Suffolk Status: Has become much more common in recent years. There have been a few sightings in the autumn in recent times suggesting a partial second brood may occur in warm years.
Life history: Single-brooded in late spring/early summer.
Identification: Worn examples could be confused with Buff Footman, but the later flight time should rule out that species.
Habitat: Woodland, heathland and gardens. Recorded in 45 (78%) of 58 10k Squares. First Recorded in 1894. Last Recorded in 2023. |
