Morley's Final Catalogue: Quite locally common, always among alders in marshes. Especially noticed in Bramford marshes, 1895; Bixley Decoy, 1904; Blythburgh damp wood, 1932 (D); Beccles and Fritton.

Recent Suffolk Status: Locally common.

Life history: Single-brooded in one extended generation.

Identification: The Rannoch looper (an immigrant to the county) which can rest with the wings folded over the body, is larger. The Small yellow wave is bright yellow in colour with brownish cross lines.

Habitat: Mainly wet woodlands, river valleys, fens.
