Status
Morley's Final Catalogue: Quite a rare moth in Suffolk, where Buckthorn is none too common. Recorded from only Aldeburgh (Hele, needs confirmation); Beccles (Crf), Needham and Stowmarket. Unnoticed since 1890.
Recent Suffolk Status: Local, more common in the Brecks where the foodplant is more plentiful. Known to wander on warm nights and can be found far from any foodplant. Moths are often worn, semingly losing scales quickly.
Life history: Single-brooded. Larvae occasionally found on Buckthorn.
Identification: Dark umber has a very obvious dark band across the wings, even in worn moths.
Habitat: Woodland, scrubby areas, hedgerows.Recorded in 27 (47%) of 58 10k Squares.
