Morley's Final Catalogue: Somewhat scarce, but wide spread. Twice at Copdock (Hkg); singly at light in Ipswich occasionally (Mly, Baylis); Stowmarket (C); Wladringfield (James), rarely (Wlr); Aldeburgh (Wrt); Beccles (Crf); Gorleston (Mr).

Recent Suffolk Status: Fairly common across the county.

Life history: Single-brooded. Seen at light in small numbers and occasionally at flowers at dusk.

Identification: Similar to Plain golden Y, but darker, more purplish brown rather than reddish and more extensively marked. The kidney mark is sharply pinched and edged in gold. The golden Y mark is usually split. Silver Y is a much greyer moth.

Habitat: Woodland, hedgerows, gardens.

First Recorded in 1940.
