Morley's Final Catalogue: Recorded about 1830 from Wrentham (Curtis); Worlingham (Crf). Bentley, Holbrook, Playford, Stowmarket, Newmarket, and fairly common at Tuddenham (Vivian). All these records are before 1890; and extinction was feared, until Mr. Goddard secured a specimen flying by day at Mildenhall in June 1933 and another in Blythburgh Wood during 1936.

Recent Suffolk Status: Fairly common.

Life history: Single-brooded.

Identification: Pretty Marbled, a very rare migrant to the county, has white in the basal area as well as in the outer area of the wing.

Habitat: Heathland, woodland rides.
