Morley's Final Catalogue: Quite rare, but more obtainable than the last. Nearly confined to the Breck:- Brandon before 1890 (Wrn); Newmarket, taken by Mr. Wagstaff (Fenland); Tuddenham, by G. F. Briggs (EMM p.223), and one there in June 1897 (Sparke); a dozen larvae were found during 1913 in west Suffolk (Nurse in lit.), probably at Ampton. Our sole coast record is from Lowestoft before 1890, taken by W. C. Boyd.

Recent Suffolk status: Immigrant. Occurring in most years, occasionally in large numbers as in 2022.

Life history: Multi-brooded. Only occurs as an immigrant species which is unable to survive our winters. In exceptional migrant years, larvae can sometimes be found on plants such as Marigolds.

Identification: Bordered straw has an obvious dark mark next to the kidney mark and a small black dot in the corner of the wing, which is lacking on Scarce bordered straw.
The similar Eastern bordered straw is yet to be recorded from the county. It has 3 black dots along the outer edge of the forewing.

Habitat: Mainly coastal sites but also recorded inland.

Recorded in 37 (64%) of 58 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1897.
Last Recorded in 2023.
