Morley's Final Catalogue: Pretty nearly extinct, doubtless. Two or three specimens about Brandon by Dr. F. D. Wheeler of Norwich, before 1890. Captured at Needham Market during 1903 by Mr. Henry Lingwood (EMM. xl, 80), and probably in his collection now preserved in Bury Museum.

Recent Suffolk Status: A more regular immigrant species to the county in recent times, especially in late summer and autumn.

Life history: Multi-brooded.

Identification: Quite variable in colour, from sandy to reddish brown. Bordered straw has an obvious dark mark next to the kidney mark and a small black dot in the corner of the wing.
The similar Eastern bordered straw is yet to be recorded from the county. It has 3 black dots along the outer edge of the forewing. Any dots are faint on Scarce bordered straw.

Habitat: Mainly coastal sites but also recorded inland.

Recorded in 38 (66%) of 58 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1903.
Last Recorded in 2024.
