Morley's Final Catalogue: Not recorded in the county during Morley's time. First county record was in 2006, at Rendham (M. Deans).

Recent Suffolk Status: Scarce immigrant and possible recent resident. A small number of records since the first and not every year, up until 2018 when it started to appear at more sites, not far from suitable habitat. Appeared at inland sites from 2021, including 6 seen near Stowmarket, hinting at colonization.

Life history: Single-brooded. All Suffolk records have been of moths at light traps. At known sites, the moth can be seen flying low over sedge beds in fens just after dusk, sometimes in numbers.

Identification: Large wainscot is a much bigger species and it has a blunter forewing and a whitish hindwing.

Habitat: Fens, reedbeds, river valleys.

Retained Specimen / Photograph will be Required.
