Morley's Final Catalogue: Suffolk to Lincoln in fens, local. Six in Mildenhall marshes on 11 July 1937 (Gd). Larvae in stems of reed, Phragmites, in May (Meyrick). I thought it fed in species of Calamagrostis reeds in damp woods (Wiltshire).

Recent Suffolk status: Local, mainly in the Brecks with scattered colonies along the coast and elsewhere.

Life history: Single-brooded.

Identification: The Concolorous is similar in size and shape but has a row of black dots. Small wainscot lacks a kidney mark and has dark streaks on the wing.

Habitat: Woodland rides and the drier parts of wetland sites.

Recorded in 25 (43%) of 58 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1948.
Last Recorded in 2023.
