Morley's Final Catalogue: (Referring also to Clouded brindle): These two species, if distinct, are remarkably similar in the extent of their frequency and distribution. Both are found, no more than occasionally and never gregariously, everywhere; on Waldringfield sugar; distinctly uncommonly around both Ipswich and Beccles; neither is noted from Lothingland, now so well-worked.

Recent Suffolk Status: Common. The pale form and the dark f. combusta are both found regularly in the county.

Life history: Single-brooded.

Identification: Clouded brindle has a pale line in the dark outer edge of the forewing and the oval and kidney mark are outlined in dark colouration.

Habitat: Woodland rides, grassland, fens, gardens.

Recorded in 47 (81%) of 58 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1940.
Last Recorded in 2024.
